Morning Routine Game-Changers

Although working from home has drastically changed and shortened my morning routine I have to credit the four investments that have made a huge contribution to the process. Having afro hair (which over the past few years I have been wearing natural), styling takes up the majority of my time so three of the products focus on that stage, continue reading to find out what they are and why I think they are game-changes.
The first is the Slip pure silk pillow case which feels like it has been on my wishlist for ages. My sister kindly gifted it to me following a not so subtle hint from me at Christmas and it has lived up to my expectations. I wanted one in black for longevity and requested the queen size (which measures at 20" x 30"/51cm x 76cm for reference). It is made of the highest grade (6A) long fibre mulberry silk, with a thickness of 22 momme and non-toxic dyes are used so you don't have to worry whichever colour you decide to go with. I'm sure you've already heard the rave reviews as it comes highly recommended by dermatologists, hairdressers and beauty experts for its anti aging and bed head qualities. Essentially the pillowcase is sold as an 8 hour beauty treatment every night (if you are lucky enough to sleep for that long). It can help keep your skins moisture and if you splurge on skincare or haircare it keeps the products where they belong. The smoothness reduces friction, stretching or tugging on delicate facial skin so avoids you waking up with those annoying crease lines on your face. The main selling point for me was the reduction in hair tangle that you get from ordinary pillows throughout the night which can lead to knot filled hair and potentially further damage. Instead it preserves styling such as a blow out or in my case natural curls.
For the days when I am not washing my hair the Style Dry turban shower cap has been a saving grace. Again opted for the black (a non-intentional running theme throughout this) which is called 'after dark' and it has a pastel pink lining.
The Lycra fabric has lots of good qualities including no pilling, is quick drying and wrinkle free. Of course it also still does the job of shielding your hair from water and humidity that can cause frizz when you are in the shower. That means my curls can last a few extra days, the shower cap doesn't leave any marks, imprints or loose elasticity like ones I've used previously. It fits perfectly and the right shape to scoop up your ends easily, a change I would recommend.
This product I have had for the longest time but have enjoyed using it so much that I just re-purchased a replacement. Originally I had the Silke London hair wrap in the 'Sofia' which is an champagne shade but as I would wear when I was getting ready I soon discoloured the border with makeup so decided to get the 'Eva' (a deep black) second time round. The fit is designed to one size which can stretch from 20"-26" and is suitable for all hair types. It's a luxurious slip on and slip off turban with elasticated edge which keeps in one securely whilst you sleep. The perfect option for when you are at home or travelling and want to maintain your hair with a 100% silk wrap. It allows your scalp's natural oils to spread evenly from the root to the tip which lowers the amount of breakages and split ends. I noticed my hair was much shiner, more voluminous and if it was even slightly frizz wearing it for a few hours would revive my curls. No wonder after a few weeks use you'll notice stronger and rehydrated hair which reduces the need to wash and restyle. Also, I keep going back as it has to be one of the more stylish options on the market as far as bonnets go!
Last in my list is the Philips Steam&Go Plus which is a handheld garment steamer. This black and rose gold steamer is portable, compact and travel friendly which makes it so handy not just for at home but for trips and travelling too. I have to admit my ironing skills are poor therefore this option does the job perfectly for me. It heats up in just 45 seconds so doesn't waste any time and you are able to steam both vertically or horizontally, catering to whichever you prefer. It comes with a brush for thicker fabrics which also helps to remove dirt and pills. There is a detachable water tank for easier filling and does one garment per fill depending on how much it needs, sometimes I can get two which is normally enough for my outfit that day. This has to be one of the most practical things I have purchased and there is no chance of burning any my clothes this way, which has happened more times than I care to admit. A heat-resistant storage bag and glove for extra protection come included for safety and to transport with ease. My family and friends have occasionally used when visiting me and commented on how easy it is to use. Plus nothing beats feeling put together when your leaving the house and nothing says you have your life together more than a crease-free outfit.
I share these with the hope that you may be able to enjoy those few extra moments in bed or make the transition easier once we go back to the commute and working in the office. If you have any additions, I would love to hear in the comments.
