5 Things You Should Stop Doing To Improve Your Life

With 2017 giving us the chance to wipe the slate clean, there are five things I will not be doing this year in hope to lead a more positive lifestyle. Warning: contains five characteristics we are all guilty of at times.

Life can be challenging at the best of times, we find ourselves doing things we know aren't good for our mind, body or soul yet there we are doing it anyway. This year I'm making a stand as I refuse to spend endless amount of time on these things. First up and for me the biggest one of them all, comparing. It can be difficult when you are surrounded by so many people doing great things to stay positive and motivated on your own journey. Nothing happens at the same for everyone and judging where you are next to someone much further down the line is unhealthy and unrealistic.  The key is to focus so much on your own grass that you don't notice or care if anyone else's is greener.

Another one, which is slightly more in your sub conscious is conforming. When you think there are around 7 billion people on the planet and more being born every second, the thought of standing out of the crowd could sound ridiculous. However if you were to place it in to a smaller or more personal context it's more about being true to yourself and not letting others influence who you are and what you stand for. Make your own decisions and do so with both your heart and brain, that way not only are you passionate but you can back it up with solid reasoning. There is a quote a came across a while back which resonates with this so well...

People pleasing hides the real you.
Overthinking, don't act like you don't do this, you are probably thinking right now about how much you overthink. We read in to problems and try find multiple solutions of how we wish things had gone or how it may go. The thing is instead of living in the now we are getting lost in possibilities. Sometimes you just have to take things as they are, move on and get on with it.

I for one strive to be a cup half full kind of girl. Being negative or looking at things in this way isn't going to change whats happened. You can either take something from it or sit in your self pity party bringing those involved down with you! Not only does your negativity impact you in terms of your attitude but also visa versa, that is why who you choose to have around you is also important. You have a choice to make yourself miserable or make yourself strong, it takes the same amount of work.

Finally, my last thing I am stopping this year is apologising. Don't get me wrong, if there is an error made by myself I will put my hands up, openly admit I made a mistake and say sorry for the fault. What I will not apologise for anymore is who I am and nor should you. I don't know about you but I am sick and tired of apologising or being asked to change something that is part of me. I will not apologise for my natural hair, I will wear it proudly because I love my afro. I will not apologise for the judgment people may pass because of the colour of my skin because I love my blackness. I will not apologise if my outfit isn't to your taste because guess what I'm wearing it and feel comfortable so why is it affecting you? I think you get my point. Believe in yourself a little more.

  1. First, I love your outfit! That jumper looks SO comfy!
I agree with everything you've listed. I am definitely very guilty of comparing and conforming, so I'll be working on that this year, overthinking is also a big one.
I look forward to seeing how you improve!
